Meg Honors her Military Family Through Local Service

Marietta, GA — The campaign visited Marietta National Cemetery this week to participate in the respectful removal of wreaths placed in December. The cemetery, which serves as a final resting place for thousands of veterans, holds special significance for Meg Strickland, whose family has a long history of military service. She also reflected on the importance of Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

The observance is part of Wreaths Across America, a nationwide effort to remember fallen veterans, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation the value of freedom. Each year, wreaths are placed on headstones in December and collected in January, with volunteers ensuring the grounds remain dignified and well-maintained.

There are many ways to get involved with Wreaths Across America: sponsoring wreaths (a $17 donation covers the cost of one wreath), supporting educational programs, or making a financial contribution. Special mention: Marietta City Council kindly donated the use of their sanitation trucks to make the disposal as efficient as possible.

Brad Quinlin (pictured) hosted and instructed volunteers at the event. He has been involved with Wreaths Across America for over 40 years and continues to lead efforts to honor veterans and their families.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Sponsor a wreath: Individuals can sponsor one or multiple wreaths in honor or memory of a veteran.
  • Donate to Wreaths Across America: General donations support wreath placements, transportation, and educational programs.
  • Volunteer at a local cemetery: You can help place wreaths in November or December, and/or assist with cleanup in January.
